Captain Lee Clarke raises money for Seafarers UK
This weekend Captain Lee Clarke, Tapiit's Project Manager, successfully managed to raise £2000 along with Dick Welsh MBE (trustee of KGFS) and John Garland (General Manager of Isle of Man Maritime) on behalf of the King George's Fund for Sailors (KGFS). Their hike of approximately 12.5 miles led them from Laxey to Ramsey where they reached the summit of Snaefell along the way. Snaefell is the highest summit on the Isle of Man, at 2,034 feet above sea level. so this was a huge achievement.
The event took place on Saturday 11th July 2020 in response to the cancellation of the popular KGFS Trafalgar Ball due to COVID-19.
All of the money raised has been donated to Seafarers UK which is a key charity in the maritime industry not only helping seafarers but also their families in need.
Speaking to Captain Lee Clarke he expressed his excitement of enabling the fundraising to continue this year despite the social gathering limitations. He described how he hoped that the usual attendees of the ball would continue with their generous donations despite the changes made. Lee also emphasised how important the fundraising was more than ever due to the current COVID-19 crisis, resulting in many seafarers being stuck at sea for much longer periods of time.
